Artivist
For over 25 years, my journey as an artivist, blending art and activism, has profoundly shaped my life. Long before my business career, I recognized the power of music and dance in driving social change. DEI isn't just a buzzword; it's at the core of who I am, forged by my upbringing in southern Africa. As a perpetual outsider, I've not only embraced but celebrated my uniqueness as my superpower. My passion for the arts and giving back still burns brightly, allowing me to take action on a range of issues, philosophies, and movements close to me. I believe giving back, reflects the spirit of ubuntu deeply rooted in a Southern African philosophy taught in my upbringing. It's about reciprocating the support I've received and paying it forward, just as others have done for me.
Activism
In the course of my travels, I've been privileged to stand by and support some incredible philanthropic organizations like Soul for Souls, The Salvation Army, The Rainforest Alliance, and Camp Harbor View in Boston. My role as an attendee and speaker at the UN General Assembly has allowed me to champion fair solutions to global challenges spanning Africa, Europe, Asia, and the United States. My connection to my birth continent, Africa has been the driving force behind my activism. Hailing from humble beginnings, giving back is a fundamental part of who I am. My commitment to making a positive impact and unwavering belief in a fairer world have been the compass guiding my journey in philanthropy and advocacy.
Artistry
Since I was 11 years old, music and dance have been my medium for expressing my thoughts and feelings. Music has this incredible ability to kindle hope and foster connections through sounds and artistry. "Finally There" emerged from a challenging period in my life when I needed a reminder that I could overcome adversity. This song is my way of shouting, "Hey, we've got this!" Within "Finally There," the message is simple: you (we) are not alone. Going to the studio is my version of a golfer's range or a triathlete's competition – it's that same feeling for me. I've always held the belief that creativity is rocket fuel for making the world better. Being able to express myself through music isn't just a gift; it's my escape and refuge.
